I settled in Waukesha after attending Carroll University and meeting my husband, who grew up here. He has been a mail carrier in Waukesha for over 25 years.
-
I have two children who both attended Waukesha STEM, my son attends Waukesha South High School.
-
I am running for school board because I believe every child deserves access to a quality public education that will meet their needs to become active citizens and quality employees and employers.
-
I believe we need quality special education in Waukesha and will advocate for equal funding for special education.
-
I have worked in different types of schools during my career as a teacher and educational leader, including private, public, charter and Waukesha's Les Paul Middle School.
-
The majority of my experience has been in public schools and all my experiences have given me perspective that would help me make important decisions on a school board.
-
I have spent many years working in personalized learning environments, making learning engaging and relevant with rigorous academic expectations.
-
I am currently an Instructional Coach at the Vel R Phillips School, located in the juvenile justice center and part of Wauwatosa School District. I work with all subject area teachers to refine classroom practices and procedures so all students can access the curriculum and work on necessary literacy and social skills for future success.
-
I believe foundational literacy, literacy across content areas and literacy intervention should be an area of focus in Waukesha to improve overall academic success. We will need strong curricular planning that aligns with the new literacy legislation for success at all grade levels.
-
I am concerned with the lack of transparency in both short and long term district planning. This has caused distrust in the community. I hope to help build transparency, clarity and trust so we can retain both students and quality educators.
-
I believe schools should help students see all paths for post secondary learning and training. I hope the district will expand their partnerships with local businesses and educational institutions and build more accessible programs through internship partners, WCTC, and 4 year colleges and universities.
-
I think we should examine all of the district learning environments to identify the strongest assets of each program. Then, if we need to consolidate due to declining enrollment in the future, we can use what the study identifies as best for all students and implement across the district.
-
I want to encourage stronger communication with all stakeholders. I am willing to work with all families and community members on any topic. My goal is to come together as a community, focus on education instead of creating division or focus on culture wars. I believe this is what is needed to make the School District of Waukesha the best place for all students.
